The last several days have been a bit on the surreal side. First, the weather exploded into the 90s in Portland (sun at last!) and then I headed to LA on business to discover clouds and 60s. Then someone explained to me that in LA traffic is about 1/3 lighter on Friday evenings than other weekdays. Huh? It's 1/3 heavier in Portland on Fridays.
And then there's the flights. Heading down, I looked up to discover the sister of an ex-girlfriend on my flight. Small world. Heading home, I discovered what passes for dinner these days: a small scoop of ice cream. Yes, ice cream. At least on the way down I got ice cream AND peanuts. Now that was living.
Then over the weekend, I called Anna in Denmark out of the blue to confirm Soren's last name (sending out invitations soon, you know). It's funny -- no matter how often you may e-mail, if you haven't actually heard someone's voice in a while it can be quite surprising. International telephony always amazes me: it seems so clunky and un-user friendly and I never know if it is going to work and then -- suddenly -- you're live and talking with an old friend 10,000 miles away. It's a small world afterall.... (with apologies if you get the Disney song stuck in your head now.)
And days after booking our honeymoon, there's a post on Craig's List by someone else wishing you could ask search engines to find you "the best tropical vacation for $500". Current travel search engines continue to be far too pedantic about needing specific dates and airport codes.
Finally, after checking out SmugMug last week as an option for image hosting, it's great to discover that I don't even have to bother with posting my own photographic masterpieces because other people do. Thanks, Moira!
